when you see Ronny Mauricio run...and you see Nimmo slugging more like a #3 hitter...I really think that the Mets offense need more speed at the top of the lineup...someone like a Jett Williams or an Luisangel Acuna type (speed with a decent OBP)

give it a year or two...
Nimmo has speed, he just isn't a good/comfortable base stealer.

give it a year or two... Nimmo has speed, he just isn't a good/comfortable base stealer. I just think that he's more of an ideal #3 type hitter, he's a good hitter with men on base...plus, he doesn't disrupt the pitcher/defense like a Reyes type of speed did...when Mauricio gets on the base paths, you can see the defense rush things and they occasionally screw up because of it

I don't agree. I want more slug from my #3 and high OBP from my leadoff (ahead of the guys who can slug). If you want to call him a #2, thats fine, but my 3-5? no thanks.

Mark Vientos since August 29: .290/.357/.579/.936 3 HRs; 1 triple; 11 hits; 8 runs; 5 RBI; and just to show that he's slowly becoming a "Met": 2 hit by pitch
and the oddity (since Citi Field hasn't always been kind to power hitters): all 5 of his home runs this season have been at home....
and maybe this says that he's feeling a little more comfortable in NYC since Baty was demoted (with Buck finally playing him a little more regularly): 7 of his 8 walks this season are at home...

not really a "baby mets" thing...but...is it just my interpretation but, I think that SNY has interviewed Alan Suriel more than any Met this month...

fyi...I edited the title back to Thomasam's original title...now that we've moved on from being anointed a playoff contender before the season started...I am curious to see how this team shapes up heading into next season...
some of the expensive deadwood has been moved, and with David Stearns coming in, I am looking forward to a younger, more athletic team...and the Mets biggest weakness at the moment is the pitching, however Stearns is supposedly really smart when it comes to finding pitching, particularly bullpen guys

OK, so with the horrid ending of the season, I had to do SOMETHING to try to get my hopes back up.
So, I watched a total of 30 minor league games (great benefit of purchasing mlb.tv is the automatic provision of milb.tv).
At least 5 games for each affiliate.
My personal scouting report?
Ronny Mauricio, as we have seen glimpses of, should be a star. I saw him live in Durham and was astounded by how much he looked like a ballplayer. Luisangel Acuna is the real deal. He has all the tools. Stanley Consuguera is underrated. Jett Williams is another one who looks polished, especially when you consider he is only 19. Mark Vasil looks like a solid starter option for next year. Blade Tidwell does, too.
There is a lot to like about the farm system, definitely.
