June 15, 9:43 p.m. It's the start of a new era for Ronny Mauricio. The Mets' top prospect played outfield for the first time in a game on Thursday for Triple-A Syracuse. He had a rough start in the field as he made an error in the first inning. Mauricio bobbled a groundball in left field as he tried to cut it off from getting to the wall. He did get his first putout as a left fielder in the fifth inning. However, he more than made up for the error with his bat. Mauricio went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs in Syracuse's 7-4 loss to the Buffalo Bisons. After Thursday's game, Mauricio now has 10 home runs and 37 RBI this season while hitting .322 in 62 games in Triple-A. June 15, 6:00 p.m. Mets top prospect Ronny Mauricio will receive his first career start in the outfield in Thursday night’s game for Triple-A Syracuse. Mauricio is batting second and playing left field in the matchup with the Buffalo Bisons. Billy Eppler and the Mets have also tested him out at second in an attempt to add some versatility. Mauricio committed seven errors in 36 appearances at the position. Offensively, though, Mauricio has been a star for Syracuse. In 61 games, he's hitting .316 with a .878 OPS, 23 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, and 35 RBI. He's also added ten stolen bases in 15 attempts. If the athletic 22-year-old can master the outfield, perhaps he'll find himself one the big league roster sooner rather than later. June 13, 1:15 p.m. The Mets announced that infielder Ronny Mauricio is officially day-to-day after an MRI revealed a bone bruise in his left ankle. Mauricio injured the ankle in an on-field collision while sliding into second base earlier this month. He missed three games before returning to the lineup, but the Mets sent Mauricio for further testing after he didn't quite look like himself in his return.

I was just trying to make the example that 22-23-24 is a reasonable age for a former NCAA pitcher to reach the majors...obviously Verlander was a higher pedigree, not sure about Mad Max and Stryder...Strider was pick #126 overall and had a college ERA of 4.71, a little higher round and signing bonus but not at Harvey level 126 I believe is still 3rd round. I usually think about it as anyone in the top 3 rounds has an expectation of getting a cup of coffee. 4-8 becomes dicey. 8 and below, say a prayer. And I'm pretty sure Max was a 1st. My buddy went to high school with him outside St Louis so I've received the full bio.

Call him up! If it wasn't for the bone bruise, I'm not sure Guillorme would have received the call over Mauricio. Let all the kids play!!

I hate to say it but... that new kid Voit looks pretty good at AAA. He just hit a monster home run to deep center field

At this point there's no strong argument against bringing Mauricio up. It feels just a little too early for Vasil but by August that also becomes a tough argument. Carrasco has had enough chances.

I agree. As we hit July, it might be time to sell on say Canha, and give his spot to Mauricio.
No chance on Vasil. Just hit AAA. My guess is we don't see him until September, at the earliest. Luchessi is next man up, and we're getting Quintana back soon to take someone's spot (Megill or Carrasco).

I don't know when the last time that I can remember that our minor league pitching depth looked so bleak...don't see any pitching studs on the horizon, so maybe they are tanking on purpose to jockey for better drafting position to get pitchers...however, knowing the Mets, they will just keep drafting shortstops and catchers without any real game plan

and who knows...they might even consider trading McNeil since he's got a team friendly contract for a few years and is a consistently good hitter that doesn't strike out while being able to at least fake it at several different defensive positions...
while he fits the Mets relatively well, he could be one of the few tradable guys that might actually fetch some value...plus for all the hitting ability that McNeil has, he really doesn't drive in many runs nor does he score a lot of runs...
even last year when he played 148 games while .326 with a .836 OPS, he only scored 73 runs while only having 62 RBI...that many games with that high of an average while having a pretty decent OPS, I would expect either more RBI or more runs scored

If thats going to be a regular occurrence, then they better start winning with the guys they've got. For the rest - yes, could be trying to get maximum trade value, but my guess is they still have high hopes that this team will turn around and the guys will start playing up to their potential. Won't matter if our BP implodes like it did yesterday, but that's the life of a Mets fan. PS: Don't see McNeil going anywhere. His value is at a low for him at the moment, so unless the Mets view this as the start of his regression, then I don't see a trade coming. The rest, fair game.

I saw some tweets on Rosario recent that peeked my interest.
1) They are finally giving him time in LF and 2B. The theory this poster had as to why they didn't start this earlier was that they figured they'd be buyers, and a SS prospect has more value that a 2B or LF prospect. Oops, miscalculation there.
2) From all the highlights, I thought he was CRUSHING it in AAA. Looking at his actual stats, May was bonkers, but his june/July were not great.
May Slash: .367/.407/.541 June Slash: .202/.260/.360 July Slash: .256/.322/.451
I honestly thought it was better before I looked. From what I've heard from Epler pressers, he is looking for more May and more defensive experience before subjecting the kid to MLB pitching/hitting.

I knew that he had some rough patches, but didn't realize that the overall numbers in recent months had looked so Baty (at the mlb level)...I wonder if the winter league excitement followed by the extended ST (due to the WBC) are taking a toll on his endurance...plus I'd imagine that losing his Baby Mets protection and learning LF/2B are helping him struggle at the plate...plus with the hot streak, he's probably got a lot of pitchers/teams looking at his video tapes...
