Back to the Baby Mets - Vientos is sitting AGAIN. He was called up about 10 days ago, and he's sat at least half, if not more. CRAZY. Meanwhile, Voggy in May is hitting .188 with a .292 slugging. And his OBP is only .316 because really, how often can you walk when you're hitting .188? Can we just cut him already!?!

Vogelbach taking walks is just baffling to me. He's got a good swing so not using it makes no sense. I'm still not sold on Vientos but at this point you do need to play him and just see what he does.

Vientos finally got another start last night. 2 singles and no strike outs. Really would have liked to see A third hit, but he grounded out to the third baseman in the 7th.
Supposedly he is getting 3 starts in a row, but we'll see if Buck changes his mind.

Well Vientos certainly did look good on Sunday. It was Colorado so it's a pinball machine but still hits are hits. It'll be a bigger test at home now and against some fairly good pitchers.

Vientos 1-3 last night. Got pulled to watch a miserable AB from Voggy. What good is the L/R matchup if the player won't swing the bat??
I know his numbers don't reflect it, but the bat talent is there for Vientos, Buck needs to continue to give him the majority of the bats until it is clear he has figured it out or hasn't.

Alverez 8th inning CS was so clutch! I didn't think he had a shot from my vantage point (seats are right past 1st), but apparently, when your catcher can throw 80 mph, you always have a shot! Would love to see them work with him to get his windup/release a bit faster, but no complaints last night!

Keep putting the kids out there!! Staple Vogelbach to the bench or cut him loose. I see nothing of value from him but some walks. No power this year, zero speed, no defense.

per sny's webpage:
Here's the latest on how the Mets' top prospects are performing in the minors...
June 13, 1:15 p.m.
The Mets announced that infielder Ronny Mauricio is officially day-to-day after an MRI revealed a bone bruise in his left ankle.
Mauricio injured the ankle in an on-field collision while sliding into second base earlier this month. He missed three games before returning to the lineup, but the Mets sent Mauricio for further testing after he didn't quite look like himself in his return.
June 12, 2:48 p.m.
According to Newsday's Tim Healy, the Mets are promoting righthanded pitching prospect Mike Vasil to Triple-A Syracuse.
In 10 starts with Double-A Binghamton this year, Vasil has allowed 22 runs (21 earned) on 35 hits in 51 innings pitched, good for a 3.71 ERA and a 0.843 WHIP. The right-hander has struck out 57 batters while walking just eight in his first year of Eastern League action.
Vasil, 23, is considered by many as the most major league-ready pitching prospect in the Mets' system. The University of Virginia product is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the No. 8 overall prospect in the team's farm system.

It's hard to picture Vasil coming up before September but at this point who knows? Quintana is hopefully going to be a solid addition but this pitching situation is bleak.

I moved from my phone to my desktop because it makes doing stats easier....hence switching from Saxon to Admin... Vasil (experience prior to MLB): NCAA (3 seasons, one being the COVID season so it was limited for everyone): 161 innings (Virginia a top ranked NCAA school); Minors (3 seasons if you count his "rookie" league season the same year as college): 129.1 innings; 0.95 WHIP; 3.48 ERA; current age: 23 thebaseballcube.com/content/player/220316/

some others for comparison sake... Spencer Strider: NCAA (2 seasons): 63 innings; 1.44 WHIP; 4.71 ERA; Minors (1 season): 94 innings, 63 of that at AA level where he had a 4.71 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP (only 1 inning at AAA, most of his good stats were at A ball); Age at MLB debut: 22 less minor league and NCAA experience with stats that weren't overly impressive www.thebaseballcube.com/content/player/210181/same staff: Max Fried, age at mlb debut was 23; Kyle Wright, age at mlb debut was 22; Bryce Elder, age at mlb debut was 23;

didn't realize that Mad Max Scherzer made his MLB debut at age 23...but pitched parts of his age 24 and age 25 seasons in the minors;
Verlander made his MLB debut at age 22, after 118 minor league innings (he totally dominated at NCAA/A/AA before making the jump to the majors after 7 AA level starts)

Not looking it up, but I think all those guys had higher pedigree than Vasil does. Vasil is an 8th round pick, so I can see the Mets being a little slower at each level to make sure the floor doesn't suddenly drop out exposing him.
Different administrations - but Matt Harvey only had 1 1/2 years in the Mets minor league system and debuted at 23, but again, we're talking about a pedigree/expectation that was affirmed instead of a whole new bar being set.

I was just trying to make the example that 22-23-24 is a reasonable age for a former NCAA pitcher to reach the majors...obviously Verlander was a higher pedigree, not sure about Mad Max and Stryder...Strider was pick #126 overall and had a college ERA of 4.71, a little higher round and signing bonus but not at Harvey level
