Let's keep the player moves/predictions/news on this thread and the managerial/front office news on the cleaning house thread.
That way we can keep the discussions separate.

Now, having said that, here's my initial off season thoughts.
All the following pales in comparison to the President/GM/Manager decisions, those need to be decided VERY quickly (at least the Prez/GM anyway) so that we are not behind the 8 ball out of the gate.
As for players,
1. Offer Conforto the QO. Yes, it's 19 mil or so, but I don't expect Bor@$$ to have him take it. If he does, fine. It's one year.
2. Resign Stroman. He would be the ONE SP we could count on.
3. Sign Syndergaard, hopefully a one year prove it deal.
4. Resign Loup to a decent deal. If he wants crazy cash, let him go. Bullpen is such a variable thing. Pack Familila's bags and give him a Greyhound ticket out of town.
5. My target bat would be Kris Bryant. Hopefully the Giants don't blow him away. He would fill so many roles that he would be a very good addition. Plus, he's a strong clubhouse guy from what I read.
6. Sign at least two veteran starters. Here's some selections: Kevin Gausman Max Scherzer (he ain't coming to NYC) Carlos Rondon Trevor Bauer (He can opt out, my thoughts? HAHAHAHAHAHA. No.) Eduardo Rodriguez Jon Gray Anthony DeSclafani Jordan Lyles
There are others, of course.

What thread do I predict that not working? haha.
I've said it in other places, but to put it on my guess is in the absence of a favorable trade, McNeil and Dom Smith are both Mets next season, not necessarily as starters, but on the Mets. Conforto and Syndegaard both get QO (and neither accept).
Additional thought: Is it just me, or is this an extremely shitty/old FA class where we need it - SS/3B/1B have nice options for someone else... We could get a SS to play 2B (ala Baez), but everywhere we truly need is crap.
CF, worst I've seen in ages. RF: Nick Castellanos or Conforto. Beyond that a cloud of dust. SP, considering the aces ages (Scherzer, Kershaw, Greinke), and Thor's TJ uncertainty after missing 2 years straight, is Guzman/Stroman really the top arm available for a multiyear deal? 2B/3B. We could get one of the many high priced options here. Really depends if they plan on wasting a roster spot on Cano or not. I think any hope of him quietly retiring is unlikely.

took so long in and out to type mine that BS snuck in there for first reply Not much different from what I would do with exception of Kris Bryant. I don't think he'll be short on suiters, especially if he shows up in the WS, which means I don't see him taking anything but a guaranteed 3B position. With 2 young 3Bs coming up the pipeline, I can't see the Mets blocking them on a 6-8 year deal. I think this one is a pipe dream. You're more likely to get one of the SS/2B to play 3B for the year and then slide to 2B when Cano is cut/retires in 2 months/2years (depending on performance)

I don't see Bryant in the cards either. During last year's offseason he was saying he wasn't enjoying the game anymore, his heart wasn't in it. Then he went to SF and it sure seems like it's rejuvenated him. The Giants will make a push you'd think, and even if they don't you'd think he'll sign with a team on the brink of winning a WS.
It's truly a tough offseason for hitters except for SS.
I didn't realize Rodon was a free agent. If he's not too tied to the White Sox he just might work as a big addition. Chicago has stuck with him as he found his footing so there could be some loyalty there (within reason). There's also the chance that this year is the outlier but it sure seems like he's finally fulfilling the promise he had when he first came up.

in my opinion, the Mets have a home ball park that is not friendly to home runs, despite having a team designed around power...so either you get rid of the blackhole ballpark or you build a team around speed/defense...

I thought it was HR neutral at this point. Its not going to gift the pop fly, but the rocket isn't going to fall harmlessly off the wall for a double... when it was first built, it was 100% a pitcher park.

Thoughts... I wholeheartedly agree with 1. Conforto will decline the QO and pursue a long term deal. I see the Rangers taking a hard look at him for RF now that they have a whole with Gallo gone and a ton of money to spend. On 2., I do think the Mets will make a quality offer to Stroman but in my mind, he's going to go with the most money, maybe the Yankees... 3., Syndergaard will also get the QO, he'll accept and I could see the Mets trying to restructure a deal with him so that they aren't paying him so much in 2022. Maybe a 3 year deal worth $45M + incentives (ie. $1M for starting in 20 games and an extra 250k for each additional game started). 4., I think Loup is a definite keeper and he's stated he wants to stay. So I think they'll come to a fair agreement in the 3 year, $20M range. 5., I'm not a huge fan of signing Bryant, because I think we can solve 3B in house. We have Baty and Vientos knocking on the door and those bats can play there. I'd much rather focus on Starling Marte for CF and Javy Baez for 2B. Having Baez, Marte, Lindor, and Nimmo in our lineup and with their hustle and playmaking ability, we could really transform our lineup from lackluster to exciting. 6., On veteran pitchers, I totally agree, its needed. As of right now, I project the following guys in our rotation for 2022: -Taijuan Walker (1st half or 2nd half?) -Carlos Carrasco (which Carrasco are we getting? He is so inconsistent) -Jacob deGrom (healthy?) -Noah Syndergaard (bounceback from injury?) -Tylor Megill (is he as dominant as his 1st 10 starts?) So, a ton of question marks. But I wouldn't pay a premium on any of the starters. Here's the list I would work with. -Danny Duffy (good to have a solid southpaw in the rotation) -Jon Gray (likely take a short term deal with some options) -Dylan Bundy (forecast a Taijuan Walker type contract for him) -Zach Davies (bad year, but I would bank on a bounceback for him) -Anthony DeSclafani (from New Jersey) If deGrom is expected to be out for 2022, I definitely go hard after Gausman or Eduardo Rodriguez who could help anchor the pitching staff.

I think that we should sign Baez for 2nd; Carlos Correa for 3rd; Kris Bryant for LF; Sterling Marte for CF and move Nimmo to RF...
if we were to get Brian Cashman, it's doable...plus based on his track record, he could probably trade Cano and our overpriced catcher for good young talent...
by the way, I am incredibly bored by the offseason already...all humor aside, I really want to see the Mets make good front office moves this offseason, but I also hope that they get them done soon enough to have time to fully have a plan for making the team better quickly

The problem is that there is no front office right now, and no one seems to want the job.
Epstein "isn't a fit" Beane turned it down Stearns hasn't been made availalble
Sounds to me like Sandy is an albatross around the neck of this franchise right now. Until he goes, I don't know how much difference it will make.

And, jeff, I can absolutely go with signing Marte and Baez. I'd take that right now.

FYI - Stroman can't be offered the QO, not that he was taking it anyway. Question becomes how much does he get? I still can't buy in as him as a front line starter. Good middle rotation guy, but he's not a stopper. Does 4 years, 90-100MM?? Do you need to go 5x 110?
I do like the Baez signing idea, especially if once he's no longer fighting for a contract, if he can turn back into the guy who hits for average and power instead of trying to just maximize power... thought again, at what cost? How much is too much? 150MM? 200MM? 300MM?? what is the market there?
Marte at CF feels like the best of a mediocre option, but they are desperate, so I hope they don't overpay.
PS: Jeff, I edited your post to move your text outside of Brian's quote box. Hope you don't mind.

BTW - another thought on Baez, after the whole thumbs down incident, who says Baez even chooses to be here. He might have given strict instructions to his agent "not the Mets unless they blow out the competition"

Apparently the Mets and Baez are planning to move quickly on a contract once the real offseason begins. So what do we think the odds are that a deal gets done? 60% likelihood?
