Vientos perhaps. He got a taste of AAA, so I'm assuming he starts there, but if he continues to rake, he could easily get the call and take over the position. Would be a great problem to have if Vientos succeeds and Baty knocking on the door.
I'm assuming Cano will get a ST invite, and if he stinks, he'll get cut. If he's good, he'll DH with the occasional day in the field, but more likely at 2nd.
Would like to see Villar back, and a platoon with JD isn't a crazy thought, especially on days when Mets have a contact/ground ball pitcher on the mound.

A few advantages with Vientos...
He had a taste of AAA and had success there after having success at AA.
With Baty on his heels, the Mets might want to get a look ahead with Mark like Dom got a look prior to Alonso.
Also, Vientos has experience at 4 different positions. Started his minor league career as a shortstop, then moving to 3B, LF and 1B.
Plus they probably got a good look at his skills during the 2020 weird Minor league situation, since only a select few got a chance to attend.

I was listening to Evan Roberts on WFAN yesterday and a caller mentioned the idea of just sticking with Sandy Alderson for a couple more years as POBO until David Stearns contract is up with Milwaukee. David Stearns grew up a Mets fan and his contract with Brewers is up after 2023 season. I'm actually not opposed to the idea. Would like to hear your thoughts.

I trust Jeffpon's judgement when it comes to offense more than I trust Sandy Dinosaur's offensive plans

As long as Sandy is here, we won't get proven long term upper management talent to sign on. It sounds like Sandy isn't going anywhere for at LEAST this offseason, so 2023 might be where we end up getting serious on the leadership front, but here's to hoping that Cohen makes moves next year instead. Not sure how, but WS is still in game 6 and this already feels like an epicly long offseason.

Now the positioning of Jake's arm in the MRI machine exacerbated his injury??? Frig sake, what else can add to the circus of this team?

Thor to Angels. 1 year 21 Million. No idea if additional incentives.
Surprised the angels would give up a draft pick and international pool money on a roll of the dice on someone just off TJS to receive only a 1 year deal. I guess it's no different than trading a recent 2nd round pick for a rental, but just seems high based on the uncertainty.

I was NOT expecting that at all. I figured he would take the QO.
Three mil is not much more, but who am I to quibble with a man's paycheck?

15% is nothing to sneeze at. I agree though, it does seem like a strange thing to turn down a guaranteed 18MM but then days into FA accept 21MM, instead of holding out for something longer term or with opt outs. Might be the type of situation where he said I want to play in sunny LA, make it happen. Maybe being from Texas, he simply hates the cold 🤣🤷♂️

I hate losing Thor but I will reserve final judgement for when I can see the final roster. Who can we get to replace him for the same amount as the QO? Starting pitcher prices are so insane, even middling pitchers make $18M. The inflation in SP salaries makes the Wheeler deal with Philly look better by the day.

The Jays signed Berrios to a 7 year $131M extension. That's a solid deal for the team for a 27 year old durable starter.

What losing Noah (no longer Thor, he's in LA now, screw him) DOES do is make resigning Stroman that much more important. Right now our rotation is deGrom (?) Peterson (?) Carrasco (?) Walker ? And for at least three or four more that you need during the season. Stroman would be a "." in the rotation, a guy to count on.

I'd rather have Gausman than Stroman. I do agree pitching is our most important need. Followed closely by Marte (or a real CF).
I can even pass on other bats if it let's us solve those two areas.

Gausman costs a pick, Stro does not.
Stro has pitched successfully in NYC, we don't know about Gaus.

Gausman can't cost a pick - he accepted the QO last year, not possible they tagged him again...
Robbie Ray costs a pick, which is a shame, as I think he'd have been a good get.
