I mean the two articles I just read used a lot of fluff words with VERY little in any way of substantiation. I'm filing this away in "I'll believe it when I see it". If they did, it really wouldn't surprise me if the rest of the offseason was just CF and Pitching. Unfortunately, that means going hard after Marte who is the one and only CF option on the board. Going internally for 3B, Pushing Jeff to LF, Nimmo to RF and getting a serious CF.
Here's part of the problem, unless the Luxury tax goes up, they will almost certainly be above that threshold. Based on sportstrac and their estimates, they are currently only 20MM away from the threshold.
Here's another question. Diaz is estimated there to get 10MM salary. Do you keep him at that? Sign him and trade him? Or let him go to Free Agency? 10MM is nothing for a closer, but is Diaz a closer?

Read the same thing about Baez and a quick strike by the Mets. How much of that is truth and how much is just trying to create some news where there is none?
Agree with Fang's thoughts - 90-100MM?? Do you need to go 5x 110? FIve years at $22M/year - would Baez go for that? If so, I think I would sign him for that. I would stay away from crazy numbers like $150M, etc.
I also don't see Stroman as a front of the roatation type. He'd be an excellent 3 or 4 for a team. How much does a #3 get? Stroman relies on location and movement, not velocity, How do those skills age as a pitcher?

translation of Billy Beane's statement?
I really want to take the job in NY, however my wife made it clear that she's staying in SF with the kids going to her alma mater...so it's the job, or the family...so tell everyone that you would love to work for Sandy, but you are driving the kids to school in the mornings before going to the giant cesspool on Coliseum Way in Oakland...

Impressive draft record for sure. What I'd like to know is, who told him to trade Scherzer in Arizona, and Turner, Fried, Eflin and Renfroe in SD???

Let's also take a look at any up and coming execs that TB has that would like a promotion.

Now that Correa is in the mix I wonder what will happen. They're both at the peak of their careers and would add a ton to this team. Do they play third and Baty moves to LF? Do they play second with McNeil going and Cano getting minimal playing time?
There are so many possible ways to fit some very appealing free agents into this roster in this offseason. Gotta say it's pretty exciting.

I've assumed that with the signing of one of those FA, that Conforto is a goner and McNeil is your new LFer.
Cano is likely your 2022 DH, Davis is 3B and Smith is again the odd man out. I think the appeal of such a sexy up the middle defense (especially if they add Marte) will lead them to sacrifice on the defense side at 3B.
A trade of McNeil or Smith could make some sense depending on what their return value is. Both feel like trade low candidates at the moment.

I like McNeil, but see him more as a utility/bench guy than a starter on a playoff caliber team...he's a good hitter, but lacks the power, speed or defense at any particular position to really be an every day player at any position...
in terms of defense: doesn't have the arm or accuracy for 3B; doesn't have the range for a 2B; doesn't have enough range as a LFer to be stationed next to Nimmo in CF (who also lacks range for a CF); doesn't have the range or the arm for RF;
for example on his range factor for 2B... McNeil has a 3.90 RF/9 as a 2B; Baez has a 4.54 RF/9 as a 2B;

I thought his arm played fine in RF. He's not Vlad Guerrero out there. But I thought he tracked a good ball and stopped most from taking the extra base. At 3B, at least from eyeball, he just wasn't letting the ball fly. for whatever reason, he was yipping himself on double clutches and then lollipop throws. Maybe someone has a site that can help define arm strength from the OF, but that was my impression on the eyeball test.
Key IMO for McNeil is to get back to being an all fields 300+ line drive hitter. Forget about 20+ HRs, but get on base, and let the team behind you drive you in 100 times. If he can do that, suddenly Nimmo, McNeil, Lindor, Alonso, Baez, Davis looks pretty dangerous for a 1-6. (Assumes we didn't just piss away 341MM on Lindor and he returns to form)

(Assumes we didn't just piss away 341MM on Lindor and he returns to form) I agree, and that could be even better if 2021 Conforto is being replaced by a good bat (someone else or Conforto on a QO returning to form) and Baty comes up and hits like he might be able to. I'm all in on the Baty Express at this point because he fills a need and he's been tearing it up. What if it's: Nimmo McNeil Lindor Alonso Baez Good RF Baty McCann Pitcher Or of course if there is a DH: Nimmo McNeil Lindor Alonso Cano (DH) Baez Good RF Baty McCann

I don't think Baty is ready. No AAA if I'm not mistaken.
I'd like to see Marte as a true CF

You're probably right that Baty isn't quite here yet, though his fall league numbers have awesome so far. If he performs early on next year though you'd have to think he's got a shot in his age-22 year to be here. If nothing else the combination of him and Vientos makes it hard to imagine this team signing a free agent third baseman.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a mix of Cano, Vientos and either JD or Villar at 3B in 2022 with Vientos getting a showcase before Baty's arrival...
