Gotta say the guy can hit. He also really moved scoring from second. He isn't going to be a star here but who knows, he might inject some life into the offense.

Corner Gas is not bad. Another Canadian comedy, not on the level of Schitt's Creek but not bad. Shot in small town Saskatchewan.

He won't need to play a bit part. You've got to think there will be one more bat brought in with Vogelbach just getting into that mix. I really think part of the reason he was brought in was to lighten the mood in the clubhouse a little. This team has really been playing tight.

scratch Andrew Benintendi off the list, Yankees got him... fyi, the Mets were part of how he wound up getting to the Royals from the Red Sox...Boston traded him to the Royals, with Khalil Lee going from the Royals to the Mets...others were involved, but it's a messy swap to explain: www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/beninan01.shtml

I'm assuming that Soto is not a realistic possibility both because of it being in-division and the cost in top prospects. It's just such a huge change in direction for a team that's been building one way.

I'm really not getting the Mets picking up a couple lefty bats recently...neither bat can hit LHP...which is their main weakness...

not a "trade" but combined with the recent trades for lefty hitters, Sherman thinks that the Mets have been "grooming" Vientos to get promoted as a RH'd DH if they don't get someone like JD Martinez:
Mets readying Mark Vientos for promotion in trade deadline fallbackJoel Sherman NYPost 7/29/22
The Mets have traded for two lefty hitters in the last week — Daniel Vogelbach and Tyler Naquin — and they remain in the market for a veteran righty hitter. But they feel they have an internal fallback if they fail to acquire a Trey Mancini or J.D. Martinez type.
It is not, however, Francisco Alvarez.
The Mets have been using Mark Vientos more regularly as their designated hitter at Triple-A to familiarize him with the role, just in case he is the option following the trade deadline.
Vientos was not used as a DH before June 17 this season, but has been deployed at that position 10 times since. That includes six of his last 11 starts through Thursday. In the other five games, Vientos started at first base three times and third twice. And while the Mets would like his versatility if he were summoned to the majors, they have other players at those positions they are more likely to use.
Pete Alonso, obviously, is the primary first baseman. With the acquisition of Naquin, Jeff McNeil is about to have his outfield playing time reduced and become a much more regular second baseman. Luis Guillorme will gain even more time at third base, especially versus righty starters, in conjunction with Eduardo Escobar. Vientos would essentially be assuming the role of J.D. Davis, who could be used as a trade chip before the trade deadline at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Vientos is the Mets’ fifth-ranked prospect, according to MLB.com. At Triple-A this year, the 22-year-old righty swinger entered the weekend hitting .261 with 18 homers and an .855 OPS. If he were summoned by the Mets, Vientos would receive much of his playing time against lefties, versus whom he was hitting .322 for Syracuse with 10 homers and 1.090 OPS.

just back from Maine, so far, this thread hasn't aged well 🤣
Mets needed something in that DH spot desperately, and Holderman has been solid, but a productive DH is >>> over a solid 6th middle reliever to me makes a whole lot of sense...

Where did you go in Maine? We love it up there but it's been a few years since we've made the trip.
I'm not as upset about dealing Holderman as some others are. Lots of guys start out well just to fade and to base future on 17.2 innings pitched is a little ridiculous. He's not even in the majors with Pittsburgh yet.
Now we're well into the 11th hour though. Could we hear another big trade during the game tonight? I was starting to convince myself that Ohtani was headed to Queens last week because it just made too much sense, but that was more a fever dream than anything else. Still interesting that the big names are finally falling, just like they usually do in the last couple of days.

I don't think that Arte Moreno would let the Mets get someone of Ohtani's caliber from his team...he and the White Sox owners were adamant about trying to keep Uncle Steve from buying the Mets...

MLB Network says Cards, Padres and Dodgers (of course) are the final three in on Soto. Man, how good would he look hitting in front of Pete? I know it would take a lot to get him but I would be all in on a 23 year old who's probably the best hitter in the game. Prospects are just that, they might turn into good players down the line. Soto is such an advanced hitter and you'd have him for three playoff runs. Man...

per espn and several others...it appears that Soto and Bell are going from DC to the Padres...I'm ok with that, it hurts the Dodgers more than anyone else...I didn't want to see the Cards pick up another all star...
