I don't know how seriously I can take Drury's numbers this season...he is playing in one of the easiest parks in the league, and is in the Central division so it's not like he's playing the larger chunk of his games against the better teams...his OPS is .938 in Great American Bandbox...and his OPS is .786 on the road... Well yeah that's why I'm saying is it worth it to trade for someone like Drury. Vientos even with the bad defense or Baty even though it feels rushed would probably be a better move. Third base really is shallow these days, and of course trade possibilities are even thinner.

Sounds like Sandy said that they have no intention of promoting Alvarez to DH. Leaning towards a trade for a DH over an in house solution.

I saw he said something, but didn't see what. I agree with this decision. No reason whatsoever to rush this kid and insert him into a high stakes pennant race in August.
I can't see him succeeding immediately on promotion. He's currently 2 for 20 with 8K in a small sample size in AAA... let the kid progress. If he has a turn around July/August, then you find a way to get him on the 40 for the deadline, promote him for September call ups to get a taste, and if he crushes it, add him to the 26 man then for the playoffs.
No service time, no pressure, and let him earn it or not...

I saw the interview with Sandy. He didn't say much that wasn't obvious but it's good to get the grounding.
I'm getting the feeling Alvarez might need a little dose of reality also. He's been crushing A and AA pitching, but maybe it's good or him to run into a bit of a roadblock. I'm completely OK with him coming up to hit in September also but I'd feel better with Baty or Vientos given their age and experience.
Alvarez is the most exciting prospect we've had in a while, let's not screw this up.

from what little that I have seen Alvarez, he jumps all over mediocre pitching...but doesn't look good against the AA/AAA guys that are smart pitchers...in other words...and he's got a Tomas Nido like throwing arm...

So far, as is the case with most young guys, he's struggled to start each new division, made the adjustments, and then excelled. Show me he can excel at AAA where there are more guys who are boarder line MLB talent because they know how to pitch, and then I'll get on the "promote him" train.
You can add on an 0-3 yesterday. Not bashing the kid. He's hopefully a future star, and maybe he can be the 3rd catcher to have his number retired by the mets once they put Carter on the wall... but right now... in 2022 ... it's clear as day... he is simply NOT ready...

He definitely isn't ready, and when you add in catching two of the most experienced top pitchers in the league it's a tall task. Scherzer in particular is not going to stand for a subpar defensive catcher calling his games. He clearly needs this year and maybe part of next year before coming up. Look at someone like Rutschman. He's coming around a little but that adjustment is a big one and for a catcher it's that much bigger.

I've heard more using him as a DH while he learns the art of catching from being around McCann and Nido. And if his bat supported that, I would too, but right now, it does.
In fairness to his .083 batting average, he does now have a respectable OBP of .324 with 5 walks in the past 2 days. Hopefully as pitchers see he's not going to take the bait on shitty pitches, the bump in average will follow.

Drury is not that good of a hitter.
More importantly, what would you offer for Soto? I don't think I'd have any untouchables if it meant getting him.

Alverez is an untouchable. Thats it. Everyone else is available, but the question is how many. For instance, i'm not giving them all of Allen, Mauricio and Baty + lower level guys and then a 500 million contract to boot. They can have some of that, but not all of it...

It's a difficult situation, because I'd have to think that the conversation starts and ends with Alvarez. Drafting an older catcher in Parada does make you wonder if Alvarez is in the mix also. For some reason many fans are acting like Mauricio is easily movable. He has been struggling a little at AA so you wonder if he's lost some of his luster.

yeah I thought that it was odd that they drafted both a catcher and a shortstop in the first round...Alvarez and Lindor for Soto & Patrick Corbin's contract?

Does today's trade make any sense? Mets gave up one of their few good relievers, who is only 26. And they got back a short fat left handed hitting first baseman with a .221 batting average.

Makes little sense to me. I know every trade can't be a blockbuster but adding Vogelbach doesn't move the needle at all. He's the prototypical softball type.

He's the prototypical softball type.
based on his physique, I'm thinking beer league softball of 35+ year olds...like guys built like Brent Butt from Corner Gas:
by the way, if you have never checked out Corner Gas, it's a decent waste of 25 minutes...funny show, the town "Dog River" reminds me of the quiet hamlet that I grew up in...and Brent reminds me of my brother, who ran the "general store" in town
