Maybe I'll give titan season two a second try

I think that the main difficulty that Titans has, is that it has so many "Titans"...there are at least 12 Titans so instead of focusing on just a few primary characters, like most shows, it has to split time with a huge cast and you have to get introduced to the characters properly for the comic-geeks to fully appreciate them...
it's the same problem that other group shows/movies like Marvel's Avengers, DC's Justice League, Marvel's The Defenders face....IMO, when I watch it over a 10 episode season, it makes more sense than when they try to cram it all into a 3+ hour movie...
by the way: I found the Avengers, the Defenders and the Justice League shows/movies painful to watch, whereas I was fine watching any of the characters from those franchises in their individual element...
For example, Wonder Woman and Aquaman movies were good, however watching them team up with Superman/Batman's endless bickering was awful...
Same with watching the Netflix's version of Dare Devil was solid, but the Defenders series was painful to watch...
same concept with the Avengers, Thor good; but watching 3+ hours of 1000 Marvel characters die, and then waiting a year for another 3+ hours of watching half of them spring back to life: no thanks

I agree with you, and I think that idea has ruined MANY a good show. Side characters don't always need their own story line. Entourage was great when it was about Vince. Once you needed to give Eric and Turtle careers away from him, the show was too thin. Lots of examples of this and that's always a peeve of mine. Not every character needs to have character development... some can just be supporting characters.
For Avengers and Justice League, I think Marvel and DC both did a great job of giving each character their own introduction movie, and THEN once you know the backstory, putting them all together, with personalities formed, into a group. Marvel just happed to do it MUCH better than DC did, and so Avengers was very good in my opinion, Justice League was pretty garbage...
As for Defenders series - that was a mess, borderline unwatchable.

so as far as Titans, I see the "main" characters as: Dick Grayson (Nightwing or original Robin), Rachel (Raven), and Starfire (Kory). The rest are contributing characters/friends/foes of theirs.
By the way, my daughters grew up watching the animated "Teen Titans", so when I started telling them about the show, they knew most of the characters...and some of the characters on DC's "Stargirl" were also in the "Teen Titans" series...the Teen Titans "Universe" probably had as many characters as the "Arrowverse" has...

Def after my time - and no kids - so missed the whole teen titan bit. Gave Arrowverse a shot, but definitely not my speed.
titans were def better than Doom Patrol. I'll try to circle back and give them a second watch. Currently short on things to watch without the wife as is. Currently resorting to watching Hanna on Amazon. Season 1 I enjoyed, the rest I watch because I don't have anything better...
Where is Jack Ryan Season 2. Action TV, thats the non-wife wheelhouse haha.

I am not at all familiar with Titans. Don't think I have ever heard of Defenders.
My son went through a phase of watching the Teen Titans cartoon series and even the most recent movie.

Titans (and even some of the characters in Stargirl) are based on characters from the Teen Titans cartoon series...all part of the DC universe, aka Batman/Superman...
The main character is Dick Grayson, aka Robin, aka Nightwing when he gets sick of being Batman's sidekick; (teen titans as well);
Starfire, Beastboy, Raven, Aqualad, Wonder Girl, Superboy, Red Hood (who is also the 2nd Robin), Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl, and later Oracle when she becomes paralyzed by Joker) are all characters in the show...
The show Titans originated on the now-disbanded DC app called DC Universe; which was owned by Warner Brothers, and moved to HBOMax.

Defenders is a similar concept to the Titans, or Justice League...except it's a Marvel series of shows/characters in the Dare Devil universe of NYC
There were several "Netflix original" Marvel shows such as Dare Devil, Iron Fists, Luke Cage, Defenders, Jessica Jones...when Disney+ started, the alliance was cancelled...now these shows are on Disney+, and the reason why you now have to verify your age with a pin to watch "Adult content" on Disney+

BTW - I was very upset when they cut the Netflix Marvel universe. Daredevil was a solid show (and popular, from what I understood). The rest of them for the most part were good, if never great, but far better than other TV that survives.
PS: You missed The Punisher, a late addition to the universe, though never a Defender...

Sorry about missing Punisher, Marvel's version of Dexter or Deathstroke...some think that he's a good guy, righting a wrong...others just think that he's a bad guy, using his vigilante angle as an excuse to be a bad-guy

Not sure whether this is available in the US but I just finished 'Slow Horses' on Apple TV+ - very impressed, Gary Oldman was brilliant.

that's A LOT of binging 🫢
If you're looking for something new, try Shrinking (Apple TV). It's VERY good. Everything else has been more of the same or mediocre. Looking at my 90 day Plex history, I have some mix of
Mandalorian (kind of tired/retread by season 3) Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - still fun hour, but glad it's the last season Top Chef - can do no wrong Animal Control - filler until better sitcom comes along Ted Lasso - still great Digman - jury's out. Started strong in episode 1 - not sure it's a keeper since. Stranger Things - getting stranger, if possible Daily Show + Last week Tonight + This Old House for reliable filler.
Apparently, not even counting sports, I've watched 2+ full days of TV/movies in the last 90 days. That's a little horrifying.
