Giving this a thread as I feel like at times, things fly through the chat box too quickly and there is no history to scroll back through.
Personally, I am so glad the Yankees are out so I can root for the Astros unconflicted. If the Phillies win the WS a year after the Braves won the WS and 2 years after the Nationals did, meaning the NL East won 3 of the past 4 WS and NONE were the Mets, it would be EXTREMELY hard to listen to those fan bases crow every time the come to Citifield.
In short LETS GO ASTROS!

this is a tough one...but out of all the teams that were left once the Mets/Guardians were eliminated (It was my "ideal" matchup), I can live with the Phils vs Astros... The way that I look at it: disappointed that the Mets and Guardians were eliminated; but at least the smug Braves; over-budget/over-worshipped Yanks/Dodgers; and annoying Cards/Pads were also sent packing (Pads: Mets always seem to struggle vs them, plus their uniforms are uglier than shit, every single one of them; Cards: need I say more?)... the 'stros got caught, but it's not like anyone other than Yankees/Braves/Dodgers fans don't believe that they have been equally as guilty of doing things that were morally corrupt in building "winners"...at least the Astros don't choke vs the Yankees like most other AL teams do... the "biggest losers in sports history"? so many reasons to hate the Philthy phillies...but at the same time, are any of the current players/management to blame for my phillies angst? if you think about it, they have a bit of Mets in them: Wheeler/Syndergard: coulda/shoulda be doing this for the Mets; the 2022 Phillies like the 1973 Mets were under-achieving until something snapped mid-season; in the case of the Mets, it was Tug McGraw "mocking" M Donald Grant. newyorkmets.medium.com/ya-gotta-believe-5c7ad4e3683din the case of the Philiies, it was the firing of Joe Girardi. www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/bryce-harper-appears-to-take-shot-at-joe-girardi-after-phillies-sweep-first-series-since-firing-manager/

I think the Astros win the series pretty easily, but I underestimated the Phillies all postseason.
The Wheeler deal haunts me, I wanted him back and didn't think that contract was outrageous. Now it looks like he's underpaid in comparison to others.
I'll be rooting for the Astros. The sign stealing is a thing of the past to me and watching the Phillies win the WS would be excruciating. And I am sooooo happy to see the Yankees go down in a sweep.
Fuck Chase Utley....

knock on wood!
But I agree (knock on wood again). Hoping the days off cool the Phillies, and talent rises to the top, which the Astros are full of. I said this when I saw them live at Citi this year, Astros are the most balanced team in the whole league this year, top to bottom, pitching to offense to defense, doesn't matter, this team is just well built.

And whether you agree with his philosophy or not, there's not debating the success Dombrowski has had in bringing four team to the WS.
Now, the state he has left those organizations in afterward is another story.
I agree, the Astros have talent everywhere on their roster. They seem to keep developing good starting pitchers too.

I was having multiple arguments with Mets fans on Twitter. I can't imagine rooting for the Phillies in any scenario. I'm 100% Houston and very glad they swept the Yankees out of the playoffs. I wouldn't have watched a minute of a Phillies/Yankees world series. I never watched a minute of the 2009 series and as far as I'm concerned it never existed.
Ideally it would've been Padres/Astros but the Astros are at least looking unbeatable. Pitching is the great equalizer but Houston really has strength everywhere. Oh and the cheating thing is hilarious to me. I mean it was laughably obvious and other teams should be ashamed for not noticing and finding a way to adjust. Plus other teams were cheating in less analog ways and complaining is off the charts.

Can't understand why the Phillies didn't start Wheeler. I think he's much better than Nola.
I cannot cheer for any team that ever had Rollins and Utley.
Fuck Chase Utley.

Even if the Philly fans were decent (and they're not) that franchise would be impossible to root for because of their recent past. I just can't see any mets fan not rooting for the Astros.

That JT Realmulto catch crashing against the wall in the 9th might have been game saving.
Also, Pena is going to be a superstar for a VERY long time.

Yeah Pena knows how to hit, that's for sure. The Astros just keep refueling.
That win was a huge relief last night and now the odds have to shift significantly in Houston's favor being a game up and going back home. I'll never count Philly out but they're up against it.

Did anyone think Wheeler was on the ropes when he was pulled? I didn't think so. Two on but I didn't think he had lost anything. I know Alvarado throws near 100 but Alvarez tattoed that ball.
All things considered I think the Astros were the best team in MLB all season. It's hard to find any fault with the best team wins.

I was surprised when it happened, but saw a couple of articles that this is apparently what the Phillies have done all year, and definitely all playoffs. They were in the 6th, in a game they were winning, were in the heaviest Lefty portion of the line up and had their lefty specialist warmed up. Essentially, it was the now or never spot for using him, and that's why they made the move.
Personally, I thought Wheeler was DEALING and would have left him in, but I can't really 2nd guess the decision when it has worked so many times in the past. And let's say Wheeler gave up the big hit. Are we talking about Matt Harvey Pedro Martinez "1 too many batters" decisions instead? Type of move that you're a genius if it works, and idiot if it doesn't. Lose/lose.
