Alvarez impressed during the Mets' final regular season series against the Nationals Danny Abriano Senior Editorial Producer 10/07/2022 10:50am Starling Marte, who has been out for roughly a month due to a broken finger, has made the Mets' roster for their Wild Card Series against the San Diego Padres that starts on Friday at Citi Field, reports SNY's Andy Martino. Francisco Alvarez has also made the roster, per Martino. Marte being on the roster seemed unlikely as recently as a few days ago, but GM Billy Eppler said on Thursday that Marte had advanced to being able to grip a bat and ball, and that he had done baseball activities. The inclusion of Marte on the roster is a boon for the Mets for multiple reasons, but there's one big one that sticks out. Marte is 7-for-17 in his career against Yu Darvish, who is starting Game 1 for the Padres. Alvarez impressed during the Mets' final regular season against the Washington Nationals, blasting a mammoth home run, ripping a double off the wall, and drawing two walks. The expectation is that Alvarez will be in the lineup for Game 2, when the Padres start left-hander Blake Snell. The must announce their full 26-man roster this morning.

Was anyone surprised to see Ruf get the nod after alverez looked over matched in pinch hit appearance game 1?

Yeah that's really a reflection of how futile that spot in the lineup was. Hopefully the time up here will help Alvarez in the future at least. Ruf really never looked comfortable at all though throughout his entire time here.

Yeah that's just incredible, though his $3MM salary might make him cuttable at some point. Who knows with a real spring training maybe he'll be more productive.

Yea, I don't see them cutting him before then. Might trade him for a bag of balls, but not straight cut. End of ST, he'll either have earned his spot or he won't.
