Baseball Prospectus | | Eyewitness Scouting Report legacy.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/eyewitness_bat.php?reportid=277Nick Plummer Born: 07/31/1996 (Age: 18) Bats: Left Throws: Left Height: 5' 10" Weight: 200 Primary Position: CF Physical/Health Not the ideal tall, long frame but one that can still handle some additional weight; already some physical development but body can sustain more; doesn't project to outgrow middle of the field unless weight gain is substantial.
Evaluator Jeff Moore Report Date 07/28/2015 Dates Seen 6/26/15, 7/1/15, Affiliate GCL Cardinals (Rookie, Cardinals)
MLB ETA 2018
(tool) (grade)
Hit 55
Quiet stance, short load; quick hands, short line-drive oriented swing path, plus bat control, whole field approach; very patient hitter, works counts, embraces leadoff profile.
High strikeout totals a byproduct of patient approach, not contact abilities.
Power 30
Not likely to produce over-the-fence power; won't have bat knocked out of his hands but power will come from gaps and speed; line drive stroke does not produce fly ball trajectory.
Baserunning/Speed 60
Plus runner, gets to top speed quickly, limited wasted motion.
Glove 55 Up-the-middle defender, should have no problem remaining in center field; solid route runner; strong first step; smooth actions tracking fly balls; not a true gap-to-gap defender but should be able to remain in center field until he loses a step.
Arm 40 Below-average arm, passable for center field but would only play in left if he has to move to a corner.
Overall
Plummer doesn't have an high ceiling thanks to his limited power profile, but he does have a refined swing and advanced plan at the plate for a player approaching his 19th birthday. His patience at the plate has gotten him in trouble thus far as a professional, as his judgement of the strike zone is currently better than the umpires at his present level of competition, but that problem will solve itself in time.
His compact swing and good barrel control give him a chance to hit atop a big league lineup in a few years, and his plate discipline gives him a safety net in case the hit tool falls short. His lack of power means he'll have to earn his way on, but he embraces the roll of being a table setter. In the field, Plummer shows refined ability to track fly balls, though doesn't have the elite straight-ahead speed or range of a plus center fielder. Still, he should be able to remain in the middle of the field, at least through his prime.
Plummer's ability to play everyday will rest on his bat and whether he gets on base enough to justify it.

I honestly knew little about Nick Plumber prior to his callup...still don't know a hell of a lot...other than Ron saying that he looks like a "Fullback in a baseball uniform"...He was the Cards #1 draft pick out of high school...and really didn't do much the year that Covid destroyed the minor league season, and minor leaguers were in some sort of camp for the year...last year was his first season at AA & AAA, he responded with a .280 batting average and a .894 OPS with 15 HRs, 20 doubles, 6 triples, 73 walks and 13 steals in 117 games... www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=plumme000nic

Sax - was that his draft card scouting report? He's certainly not still 18 (doing the math, like 25). From the HR I saw, definitely developed some over the fence power as that went to the coke corner!
Looking at his baseball-reference page, he had a strong 2021, and thats when he developed his pop (maybe he hit the gym hard during the COVID 2020 shutdown?). Despite that, never even got a taste of the bigs, including September call ups, so I wonder if that means he was injured in September?? Mets signed him in the offseason to a minor league deal, and here he is.
Eppler so far is getting a strong nod from me for his moves. Its this type of underrated signing that gets lost, but wins games...

what I meant to say is that, his minor league career was pretty miserable until the season that Covid cancelled the minor league season...but since then, he's been pretty good for an older minor leaguer

I've been having a hard time finding the "team vs team" grid this season...Interesting to see who teams do really well against, and who they struggle with...
for the Mets: doing great vs the Phils/Nats; doing pretty well vs the D'Backs/Cards; no worse than "treading water" vs the rest; killing the NL East; killing RHP;
for the Braves: killing the Rox/Pirates; treading water vs the rest; killing LHP; killing NL Central;
for the Phils: doing well vs the AL; Brewers; getting killed by the Mets; treading water vs the rest;

Not sure where to put this, so this seems as good a place as any.
I know it doesn't REALLY mean anything, but all the same WTF?!
* Preseason Power rankings for Mets: Ranked 16. No problem. This makes sense. Middle of pack. I get it.
* After week 1+, ranking for Mets: Dropped down to 23rd. Makes sense. Horrible start, 1-5 home stand, sitting 2-7 at writing. Yea, gross.
* Now, after week 2+, what are the ranking for Mets? Well, considering they just won series against the reds (#12), braves (#3), and KC (#6), fought back to 7-8 (7-3 since 0-5 start), you'd think they'd make massive moves upwards? Or, if not, at least back to middle of pack? Well, you'd be wrong (at least in the eyes of MLB.com). Not only didn't they move up significantly, they moved DOWN another spot down to 24... 😳
I know, end of the day only W-L matter, but still, no respect!

maybe it's a good omen...when the Mets are ranked at the top, they disappoint...when they have succeeded at times in the past, not much was expected of them
