Didn't mean to drudge up bad feelings on Gary. Normally I find his "complaining" to be interesting, this case not excluded. I think it's a reasonable complaint, I just happen to disagree with him.
I was more looking for a continuation of that conversation. Where do you fall? Fair rule that will help inspire more 2 way pitcher/hitters? No rule should be made solely to carve out an exception for 1 player?
PS: I couldn't imagine having to talk for 3 hours nearly daily for more than half the year and continue to be entertaining.

I know a lot of people don't like Gary but I don't really get it. I know there are purists that want more silence in general during games, but that's not coming back. Going to Cubs games with no sound except organ music is great also but it's just not what draws fans to watch games.
Yeah I don't understand why the DH has to be in the pitcher's spot and to be honest I didn't know it was a restriction until now. I just figured the lightest hitter was always the pitcher. If you had a number of decent-hitting pitchers you might even carry a defensive specialist on your roster. Why not have an amazing fielder at SS and hit for him when deGrom is starting for instance?

Chris Owens was the first pitcher that came to mind for me. Someone I didn't mind getting hurt at the plate, but who could still swing a decent bat.
Truth is, it would still 99.9% of the time be a pitcher, but why create prohibitive rules? I like any rule that gives more flexibility, not less.
Side thought - continued the debate with a friend, and another reason I support the rule change (even if it does stick for pitchers only), right now, the rule as previously written penalizes one player. It's not about giving Othani an advantage, it's about leveling the playing field so the Angels don't have to be penalized. I have no problems with a rule change for 1 when it rights an injustice (rather than create an advantage)

I have no problem with the rule, the game is for the fans and fans want to see Ohtani show his crazy skills. The rules that change usually start with one player being an exception and then others come along so that the rule is no longer relevant or no longer in the best interests of the game. Ohtani's skills are just so great that he's the only one right now that can do both at such a high level. I want to see him playing as much as possible, not less. Whatever works to get him in the lineup as much as possible, I'm in favor of.

And I like Gary, I get the impression he doesn't take himself too seriously and he's not a blowhard who needs to constantly try and show how smart he is (Joe Buck, Costas).
The comraderie with Gary, Ron and Keith is apparent and appears genuine.

And I like Gary, I get the impression he doesn't take himself too seriously and he's not a blowhard who needs to constantly try and show how smart he is (Joe Buck, Costas). The comraderie with Gary, Ron and Keith is apparent and appears genuine. Two fun Keithisms today so far each made me smile. 1) Lindor blocks a runner at 2nd with his knee giving him chance to apply the tag, Keith says "slide in feet first and he won't drop that knee". True story, old school grit. 2) Keith tells about how he got an email from Florida Power Company saying he needs to make a payment in 30 minutes for past due bills, otherwise they are shutting his power off in 30 minutes. Bites full hook line and sinker. Calls, flips out on the "power company rep", calls his bank, says I need to make an emergency payment? and what the heck is this Zelle thing? Until his banker said "oh Keith..." All the while Gary is asking if there was a Nigerian Prince taking the call. haha. Entertainment for days

Yeah, I thought that was hilarious with the spam call. Keith is in the target group on paper for that.

back to DH - how many more days where he crushes it as DH before Pete decides daily 1B isn't that important

Soon I hope. His defense reminds me of Duda.

Better than Dudas. More range than Duda. Far lower than Smith.
Though if Smith's bat doesn't wake up even a little, then despite Alonso being better at DH, this quickly becomes a moot conversation.

I've always been anti DH, but I must say I have not really missed the pitcher up there at all.
I'd rather see the 7 inning doubleheader stick and elimination of the idiotic guy on second in extras rules, frankly.

I think I'm another convert to the DH. I hated the idea but now it is here it aint so bad. I still miss the tactical pinch hitting that the pitchers spot used to lead to though.
The runner on second annoys me too. Theoretical question: if a pitcher has a perfect game and it goes to extras does he lose the perfect game? Never going to happen because you'd need 0-0 tied game and someone pitching into the 10th but ...

Didn't know where else to put this...but felt like digging into our splits so...hopefully some of the charts work:
