See if this poll thingy works

I guess that I should have made 2 polls, one "Who do you want?" and "Who do you think it will be?"
I think that I want the Rays bench coach...but I think that it will be Buck Showalter...

I voted Buck as I think that is who it WILL be. Not sure who I want. It's such a crap shoot. I've heard that Buck gets the most out of his guys and puts them in a winners mentality. For a team that feels like regular under performers, that sounds nice.
I hear that Espada is potentially the next genius manager, but then again, he's never convinced anyone to pull the trigger on him... so go figure.

I think that any of the three would/will be good managers, but I voted Buck (I know he was hired, but I would have voted for him anyway.
In this case, Buck is the best option. We've gone the first hire route a couple of times with poor results, Steve could not do that again. Buck has unmistakable experience and has demonstrated the ability to win. He will be the most prepared manager we have had in decades.
Now, I WOULD like to see them hire Beltran as one of his coaches and groom him as the successor.

I'd be on board with that plan

Logical plan, Brian. Let's see if the Mets have turned an organizational corner and actually do something like that.
Uncle Steve coulsd not screw up this hire and while Showalter may not be the trendy hire, he does have the track record and from what I read, he oversees all details down to the smallest. I think it's what this organization could use for a change. Callaway never gave me that impression.
Never understood why Hinch and Cora only sat out a year and then re-hired with no further consequences yet Beltran has never been heard from again. I understand Beltran may have been a ringleader but what about the very willing participants on both teams??

After the Mets underachieving pretty much every season since 1986, I can't really complain about the managerial choice. Buck has had solid success in his first season taking over clubs with bad track records.
Long run, he may not have been the best choice, but the Mets have put themselves into a position that kinda dictated veteran leadership instead of going with the smartest guy in the room.

I agree Sax. Sadly, this organization does need an "adult" type of manager.

Mets scheduled to have a press conference today at 1 pm. Looks like SNY, MLB network, twitter, Facebook pages for Mets will broadcast it.

Now to start assembling a coaching staff, I would imagine most of the best established talent is already employed.

I wish I could find it, but there was a book written about the backstory for the two teams added in 1998 (Florida and Arizona). I have it somewhere in my library. It detailed what Buck did when he was interviewed in Arizona. He had everything planned out, down to the batting practice jerseys, field times, layout of the clubhouse, potential players to target, projections, you name it.
He's not some fossil that ignores analytics. Actually the opposite. While not shackled to them, he uses the proper combination of analytics and gut. I think he's a perfect fit for where we are now.
This organization needs a HUGE dose of professionalism, and the adjective that fits him best is just that, professional. He will be prepared, and his coaches will be prepared. The players will, too, or they will be gone.
It's about time we had a strong leader and not the "love you guys" wusses we have had in charge. Buck is tough but fair. That's all you can ask for in a leader.

From what I have been reading and watching this afternoon, he was the next Davey Johnson of preparation without having the benefits of computer analytics yet. Hee and his wife made their own analytics while he managed for the Oneonta Yankees in the NY-Penn league.

I have watched and or read interviews with both Adam Jones and Manny Machado saying what a great influence he was to their careers. I would not be surprised if both weren't with Buck's Mets eventually. One as a player and one as a coach.
