not gonna break out the pitchers other than to say that Peterson and Manaea have far exceeded my expectations with really solid pitching....both have 6 "Quality Starts" with 5 wins with really good WHIP for starting pitchers (post A/S break)

Bats certainly have been good. Aside from the Diaz blown saves, I believe the SP and BP has been good for the past month as well.
would love to see Bader heat up some, but this team definitely has something cooking.
Tough September lies ahead, lots of games against good teams (Phillies, Braves, Brewers), so Mets will need to earn their spot. Lets do this thing!

The others have held down the fort other than a couple rough outings.

I know that we want to make the playoffs (I do as well)...but...after the first several weeks of the season being a total disaster; I think that this team regardless of whether they make the playoffs or not, can be proud of the way that they rebounded... This was a shit-show in early May on a team with a big payroll but, in a lot of ways, a team that was inherited by David Stearns and Carlos Mendoza...I think that the turning point for the team hierarchy (Carlos/Stearns/etc) to say enough embarrassment and time to start making a change came with that relief pitcher being quoted in an interview by Steve Gelbs saying something along the lines of "We are the worst team in baseball" (however, he said that his language barrier misinterpreted the question and his own Spanish to English translation)...

by the way, after posting that...I looked up Jorge Lopez...and our record when he got released...he got released after the May 29th game (game 55 of the season)...overall he has had a decent season (both his Mets part and especially his Cubs part), however he had had 3 bad outings in a row (giving up 6 Earned Runs, 3 HRs, 6 hits and 1 walk vs the Dodgers 2 nights in a row and the Giants on May 24) Mets were 22-33 at the time...They won the last 2 games of May (7 wins and 19 losses in May overall, after a 15-14 April)...so what changes came after Lopez suffered from diarrhea of the mouth with a microphone in front of his face? key changes: Lopez: DFA Baty: sent to AAA after batting .185 with a .622 OPS in May (Mets were 8-14 in games that Baty started); Iglesias: Sent from AAA to Mets; Omar Narvaez: DFA; replaced by Luis Torrens; May 30: Designated RHP Jorge Lopez for assignment. Recalled LHP Danny Young from Syracuse (IL); May 31: Optioned RHP Christian Scott and INF Brett Baty to Syracuse (IL). Recalled RHP Dedniel Nunez from Syracuse. Selected the contract of INF Jose Iglesias from Syracuse. Designated C Omar Narvaez for assignment. Acquired C Luis Torrens from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations. www.espn.com/mlb/team/transactions/_/name/nym/new-york-mets

Lopez has been great with the cubs, but for what its worth, the blown hold/loss against the pirates is what might be the straw that breaks the back on their season after surging up the standings. Now 4.5 out of the playoffs, not sure there is enough games to overtake 2 teams. Would have to go something like 19-6 to realistically have a shot (assuming Mets can go 15-10 or Braves 15-11).
At least he didn't chuck his glove following it...

But back on topic - credit to Sterns. He had no issues casting his pride aside, admitting any of his own moves might not be working, and trying something else. Was reminiscent of a fantasy team manager hitting the waiver wire to shuffle in/out their bottom half of their draft. Sometimes you strike waiver gold.
The moves seemed to have worked, they sparked the stars (who as great as OMG and Torrens and the rest of the fill in have been, it is the stars that have carried the comeback), and in the end, here we are, 0.5 GB with a legit chance at October ball).

Was reminiscent of a fantasy team manager hitting the waiver wire to shuffle in/out their bottom half of their draft. Sometimes you strike waiver gold. One year in Fantasy League, there was a guy in the league that for whatever crazy reason, he wanted only Mets/Yanks on his team...so he made some offers that I couldn't refuse to get any Mets or Yanks from me...needless to say that he overpaid me for his weird obsession...I had a much better season than he did (probably didn't hurt that I had drafted a very young Albert Pujols and he qualified at just about any position other than catcher/pitcher due to Yahoo's really loose qualification rules...I'm thinking 2002 or 2003 since 2002 is the only time that he played shortstop)

Better yet, Howie and Keith on the radio last night said if you go back to June 3rd (24-35), exactly 81 games ago, the Mets are 52-29. That's a 104 W pace for a half season. That is impressive. 2022, they only won 101 games by comparison

Tue, but they kept pace as the Braves ate away at an favorable matchup against the Rockies. They've also gained on the DBacks, so now every team in the WC is reachable if they stumble. Braved 0.5 DBacks: 3.0 Padres: 3.5 Lets just say for argument sake that the Padres (leading on the list) go .500 over their last 21 (11-10). Mets would need to go 15-7 to catch them. DBacks 11-11? Mets, 14-8. Neither a .500 winning clip or a .636 winning clip are impossible or take much imagination. (Mets have been winning at a .642 clip since June 3rd). None of that to mention the Mets have 3 against the Braves. Win that series, all else equal, and you've gone from 0.5 back to 0.5 up. Its all in play, just keep winning ballgames!

Tied for the WC!
Lindor has been so great since the move to leadoff. What a display of all around excellence. He does everything at a high level.

kinda funny that we win 7 in a row and barely make up any ground...until we have an off day, and we gain ground on all 3 spots
