well, Baty's chances of being the 3B of the present just went up. Mauricio torn ACL (source is a friend, so I take it as 90% accurate)...

Mauricio is the kind of player who needs that offseason work, but this downside really does seem to happen too often. Baty does indeed have the chance to secure the position going forward so let's see. I didn't think Mauricio was a great option at third anyhow, with the quick reflexes needed for a below-average fielder. Maybe the extra work was helping though.

After hearing/reading the chatter thru the media in the last couple days, I think that Vientos is going to get a good look at 3B (at least early)...
a few reasons why: 1) his bat really came around towards the end of the season; 2) he's got a strong arm; 3) he's working with Lindor in the off-season; 4) Carlos Mendoza talked more about Vientos in his interview, and listed Baty 3rd as far as 3B options; 5) Pete Alonso's contract status (give Vientos as much time to get comfortable as a corner IF while we still have Alonso so if Pete leaves, it will be less of a transition for Vientos to play a MLB 1B); 6) Mets are notoriously bad against LHP, Vientos helps solidify the lineup vs LHP and he can also do damage vs RHP;
I know that I'm cherry picking stats here, but Vientos had a 22 game stretch at the end of August thru September 27th, where he had 7 Home Runs and a triple (4 of those were in Citi Field)...he's got legit MLB power that doesn't disappear at Citi Field

I was still picturing Vientos being the potential DH, but wouldn't surprise me if Vientos earned the 3B job with a strong spring following so visible work with Lindor this offseason.

I've been anti-Vientos based on his all-or-nothing hitting profile and reputation as a butcher in the field. The potential is still there though, and a good spring would bring me around. There certainly needs to be a solution at 3B. It's been a revolving door.

I love all the media speculation about Mets plans if they don't Yoshinobu Yamamoto...IMO, they get him, they will go "all in" while they know that they still have Pete for another year...However, I think that if they don't land Yamamoto, I think that they will go with the youngsters and try to land young arms instead of wasting much on short term solutions...
One article speculates Marcus Stroman...really? I think that is about as likely as Israel inviting the Hamas over for Christmas dinner (not trying to insult anyone's belief system...just saying that Stroman has 0.00000000000000000000001% of getting invited to a Mets old timers day sometime in his lifetime, and an even smaller chance of wearing a Mets uniform while getting paid)

I agree with Stroman analysis. Burned way too many bridges on his way out. Only reason its higher than .000000000001% is new management in place (though owner is still the same). so maybe .0001% chance Yea, if they miss Yamamoto - does Stearns putting a ton of money into the 2nd tier make sense? Or do they just pivot to a rebuild? I really don't know.

I also don't get the Justin Turner speculation...Did he have a solid career once he left the Mets? yes...but at this point, he's 39 years old and not a huge improvement over the kids that we really haven't given a good look at for 3rd base...The Braves/Phils are stacked and don't show signs of breaking anytime soon; so IMO getting stopgap veterans over given the kids a look is a Wilpon move that really benefits nobody longterm

Well the whole world knows about the Yamamoto deal now. It just seems obvious at this point that it was always going to be the Dodgers. Now they're assembling a ridiculous team and are going to be the team to beat for the next several years.
So now does the effort turn to Imanaga? Everything I see doesn't mention Mets involvement in his scouting. Do they make the effort for Montgomery or Snell? I'm not crazy about either, though Montgomery has a little more appeal. Snell's five inning limit is just a recipe for issues as the bullpen gets taxed.

Snell has always had great stuff but in an Al Leiter kind of way. High K, high BB. And with pitch count limits, he doesn't go nearly as deep as Leiter. He's 31, whatever contract he gets will look bad in the future.

I thought Uncle Steve would pull this one off but when I see Ohtani playing for basically peanuts in present day value to be with the Dodgers, the writing is on the wall.

I thought Uncle Steve would pull this one off but when I see Ohtani playing for basically peanuts in present day value to be with the Dodgers, the writing is on the wall. . And from the sound of it, the Mets had the highest bid, but then they went back to the Dodgers and got the Dodgers to up their bid to match the highest offer... basically it sounds like it was always rigged to give him to the Dodgers.
