That is a shame. I was and still am a Buck supporter. I wanted him as the manager for many years.
He was a genius last year, handling an ultimately flawed team to a 100 win year. The loss of Marte ultimately weakened the offense and Scherzer spitting the bit (and Walker pulling his usual Mets fade at the end of the year) killed the rotation.
This year was a Wilpon-esque snakebit-baby season. From the Diaz injury to Verlander's late start to Marte's continuing problems to McNeil's ponderous beginning the team never really got it's feet under them, and there was not much Showalter could do, frankly.
He did not go from manager of the year to moron in one season.

Buck had a lot of head scratching moves, from DH choices, to benching guys after hot games, to BP calls and short SP hooks, i was often left questioning the "why". That said, they were all the same moves from 2022 which won him 101 games.
In the end, I doubt any of that mattered. Stearns wants to bring in his guy. My guess is the Mets hire Counsell. But we'll see.

I like Buck...I feel bad for Buck, and would really like for them to keep him doing something in the organization (for all of Steinbrenner's firings, most of the fired managers still worked for the Yankees after they were fired)...
However, he was always a "stopgap" to try to bring an adult voice back into the Mets spokesperson role...as nyf stated, he made a lot of questionable moves this season (some of which might have been forced on him, like giving Vogelbach every chance over the kids)...but...it's a new day...it's a new regime...and it's time to move on...
I would not be surprised to see Carlos Beltran get another chance...Counsel is also very likely...as is the bench coach from the Astros...I doubt that we'll see another regurgitated (fired multiple times veteran) manager...it will likely be young blood or someone with a link to Stearns' past

Thanks for that article...vogelbach really made no sense to me...and while just a contributing factor, the Mets downfall last season started after Vogelbach and the other DH platoon partner were acquired.

Saw that this morning. I think a lot of fans were surprised by that, and an apology/kudos to Buck for toeing the company line and not accidentally letting that slip before being fired. I'd have been screaming from the hilltops that EPPLER IS MAKING ME DO IT.
So Buck gets a partial pass there, but only partial because Voggy was a problem of Bucks own making. His philosophy of rotating the whole bench in constantly but not for long enough to keep everyone hot is what IMO sunk the DH spot last year, and caused the need to find a replacement DH. If he would have just awarded the job to say JD Davis instead of letting him play 1 out of 3 games, then maybe he'd have been the positive WAR player he was this year. Same with Dom Smith who wasted away on the bench too often. (Both guys had a WAR of 0.9 vs Voggy's 0.2 which was negative prior to having a better 2nd half once the team was already sunk)

I can't help but think that Eppler "resigning" was a result of today's NYPOST article about him forcing Buck to play Vogelbus even when it was obvious that Vogelbus could only do one thing, and he wasn't even good at that

It's certainly been an interesting first few days of the offseason. I'm looking forward to them bringing in a new FO team, some new blood that should keep on the plan of building a solid organization and not just making surface moves at the major league level.
Now the Pete Alonso talk can truly begin...

Scary thing is that Pete just switched to Boras. Boras likes to drag things out as long as possible, so keeping him without trading him is no longer going to be an advantage.

Yeah Boras is never a good thing, and I'm a little surprised Pete took that route. It's very much a hardball approach and it's going to be a slog now trying to sign him to an extension.

I feel any time you let a player get within 1 year of the open market, they usually opt to test that market. Sometimes it works out. Recent examples include Judge, Springer, Diaz, Carlos Rodon.
Sometimes you pay the price for pushing the envelope. Conforto.
I means here is a tale of two teammates. Zach Wheeler got a 9 figure deal. Matt Harvey fell way short and now works for a real estate firm in NJ. Locking it in today gives it security, but that security normally comes with a discount. Harvey was quoted saying he's ready for whatever comes his way... meaning he was confident in his ability to overcome the risks... is Pete as confident? Or does Pete want to lock it in?
Maybe, just maybe, Pete is hiring Boras to force the Mets hands. EVERYONE knows Boras's reputation. Might be Pete's way of saying "lets get real, or I'm ready to play out for the open market"
Or maybe, thats the plan anyway. We'll see! Stevie might be happier making the move at the last minute will all the info in hand, and that might be worth the premium cost of waiting until the last minute but not getting stuck with a Matt Harvey/Ike Davis who looked like they had all the promise and then fell off a cliff...
