Now that we have finally added Stearns to the front office - what are your thoughts on his addition?
He has long been rumored to be joining the Mets and he's a lifelong fan. Uncle Steve made it happen for big bucks, supposedly $50M over 5 years.

I really like it. I think that the team really needs a guy with his credibility.

Jury is still out for me. I haven't decided if I'm happy with him (over paying Epstein whatever ungodly sum he wanted), but there's certainly positive notes to drill in out.
*PRO: He's done good things with the Brewers,
*Con: Was that skill or did he get lucky when he traded for a blossoming MVP candidate in exchange for a bag of baseballs? Its been years since I've looked at their team and said "this team is a threat to win it all" yet they've quietly produced year in and out, making the playoffs more often than not, and there is something to be said about that.
*PRO: Somehow, he's managed to do it while not depleting the farm definitely deserves Kudos. They have a top farm system and didn't even have to eat 70MM in payroll to buy it.
*Con: It's the NL Central, arguably the worst division over his tenure. Yes, the Cubs spend (but not well), and the Cards have upped their wallet game recently, but the division on the whole has been the worst in baseball over his entire tenure. The reds, pirates and until this year the Cubs, regularly amount to free wins. Was he just the best of a lousy bunch, and can he do it when he has the Braves FO, or the Phillies/Nationals money opposing him?
If you forced me to make a call - I'd say I'm excited he's not Sandy Alderson and excited to start a new tenure to continue on the analytics path that Uncle Steve wants to build. It's entirely possible he's this generations Theo Epstein promoted from the low spending Padres and given the money by the RedSox to back his baseball IQ. Fingers Crossed!

I'm generally positive on him. Keeping any small-market team competitive year over year isn't easy, whether it's a weak division or not. They've generally made smart trades and mixed the veterans with the farm well. They seem to develop pitchers very well. Any addition to a team philosophy or front office culture is a plus for me. I don't see him as the savior that some other fans seem to though.

Looking back at the offseason, as we approach out opening day and we can see the final roster in essentially its finalized form, I really like the moves David Sterns has made. He waited out the market, has hedged by signing multiple guys with high upside, and I think has put the Mets, despite having 40M invested in aces on other teams rosters, in a position to at least compete for the playoffs.
Hoping this isn't fan blindness, but I truly believe this can be a mid 80's to low 90's win team assuming all they manage to keep some of the wheels from falling off.
