1 week until deadline, season is all but lost. Who you selling?
Easy ones: Robertson, Ottavino, Raley, Pham. Question just becomes what return can you get.
Low returns: Voggy, Cahna, Cookie. These guys aren't mets next year, get what you can for them and call it a day.
Hard ones:
Scherzer/Verlander? You looking for salary dump and to spend it differently next year? Eating 2023 salary to try to get back decent prospect? And if so, eating any 2024 salary as well? Marte: Still have 2 years at a reasonable contract. How much has been the offseason surgery? How much is age regression? Quintana: Worth holding onto as he's a reasonable priced guy for next year. Or if someone will give you prospects for him, you can always find a new back end, 13M pitcher. McNeil: Sure seems like a sell low candidate, and with 4 years of reasonable control, are you really moving him? Omar Navarez: Will the return even be worth it? Then again, or 7.5M dollars, if someone wanted to pick up the 2024 price tag, I think I'd rather have Nido, but if we have to eat the money, might as well keep the offensive upgrade.
Untouchables: Alonso, Nimmo, Baby Mets, Senga. End list?
Call Up: Reunite the 4th baby met, and let's play them all EVERY DAY!!!

The easy ones are almost definitely gone. Hopefully Pham recovers well so he can command at least one decent prospect. Robertson should get something and Raley a little less but I really have to feel sorry for whoever picks up Ottavino for any price. Putting him in a high-leverage situation for a contender would do enough damage to my heart that the outcome wouldn't even matter. Clearing out the bullpen will also give reason to bring Vasil and maybe another pitcher up to get experience. It's all positive.
Canha has to be moved to make room for Mauricio, and an AL team seems to make sense. Maybe a team like Texas or Tampa could see a reason for a 5th OF.
Of course Vogelbach and Carrasco aren't getting you much. I'm not nearly as anti-Vogelbach as most people are, but he needs to be a role player and would be an effective pinch hitter. I do wonder if a team could find a use for Carrasco in the bullpen somewhere. He's awful in the first inning generally but maybe not if he's maxing out to pitch only one inning. If the cost was low I'd consider that if I was another team.
I just don't see how they play Mauricio in the infield given what a brutal fielder he is. I just don't know why they're bothering with McNeil in the OF instead of just sticking Mauricio out there and hoping for the best. I completely understand why they've kept him down there but it is time now to get Mauricio up here. When you're 8 games out a few singles that become triples aren't a big deal, just give him the seal of approval and give him the time out there.

IMO, they should sell anything that they can (within reason, obviously)...
Other than Alvarez, there really isn't any "untouchable" on the team...but some of the potential trade candidates have a return vs value to the team aspect...
Would you trade Alonso or Nimmo if the return was ridiculously good?
Would you trade McNeil or Marte if the return was crap?

and at the same token...would there realistically be any real options of trading Mad Max, Verlander or Lindor? (with those salaries combined with no-trade clauses, they are virtually Mets for the life of their contracts)
Pretty much anyone on the 40 man roster that I haven't mentioned that is over 30, I would help them pack...

Real good prospect for Mad Max... www.milb.com/player/luisangel-acuna-682668sny.tv/articles/mets-trading-max-scherzer-rangers-2023Mets trading Max Scherzer to Rangers Scherzer's up-and-down tenure in Queens has come to an end Alex Smith 7/29/2023 8:37pm According to SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino, the Mets are acquiring SS/2B prospect Luisangel Acuna, the 18-year-old brother of Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. The Rangers are paying Scherzer $22.5 million. Mets are paying it down to that level. Luisangel Acuna is the Rangers' No. 3 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. In 362 at-bats in the Rangers' Double-A affiliate, Acuna slashed .315/.377/.830 with seven home runs and 51 RBI. He also has 42 stolen bases. Scherzer has waived his no-trade clause to OK the deal. On Friday, the right-hander had said he would probably have a conversation with the front office, since the team had traded David Robertson the night before. “We put ourselves in this position," Scherzer said. "We haven't played well as a team. I've had a hand in that for why we're in the position that we're at. Can't get mad at anybody but yourself, but it stinks.” Signed to a three-year, $130 million contract in December 2021, Scherzer pitched to a career-best 2.29 ERA in his first season as a Met in 2022, but this one has been anything but easy for the 39-year-old. After allowing a combined eight earned runs over his first two starts in Miami and Milwaukee, Scherzer was ejected from his April 19 start against the Dodgers in Los Angeles after umpires deemed he had a sticky substance on his right hand. Scherzer was suspended for 10 games, and after allowing six earned runs in 3.1 innings in his return to the mound in Detroit, he missed his next start due to neck spasms and then also pitched around soreness in his right scapula area. Though his final outing as a Met on Friday was vintage Scherzer, in 19 starts this season, he went 9-4 with a 4.01 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP.

Looks like anyone who isn't nailed down is being moved. I don't know enough to comment on the return but trading Max is disappointing, but he hasn't been classic Max this season.

I can't help but think they traded Scherzer partly to quell some of the unrest on the team when they traded Robertson. He's certainly been vocal and who needs that kind of static when you're up against the trade deadline? I like the Acuna trade even though baseball brothers haven't always worked out well. He's got athleticism and speed along with strong baseball acumen. He seems like a good CF candidate if they were to move Nimmo into a corner or of course 2B if they really insist on moving McNeil to the OF.

Cahna's gone...traded for a pitching prospect from the Brewers, Justin Jarvis...Who just reached AAA 3 starts ago (and has been rocked in all 3 AAA starts)...but at least they are restocking instead of treading water...

It's hard not to get excited about the prospects that are coming over. Doing any kind of rebuild is never pleasant but it's one seriously exciting bunch of young players.

I am a little surprised/disappointed that we didn't get anything for 2 of our main bullpen guys that are left.
Also I wonder what that means for our injured closer in the off-season...if we are retooling for 2025 and 2026, do we need a premiere closer?

I just don't know if they're truly punting on 2024 like so many are saying. Most of the starting lineup is still here, with only LF needing replacement. Could that be McNeil with Mauricio up here or Mauricio himself? The free agent pitching class is much stronger than last year so they'll be able to sign a couple to fill in the rotation. It's not as exciting as Verlander and Scherzer of course but the results will probably be just as good overall.
