The current make up of the team led to a discussion about strike outs in the chat thingy...So I figured that we could have a discussion around the current make up of the offense, relating to strike outs...
While not striking out is ideal...and getting on base, is valued...when are strike outs livable? and when are walks not as valuable as you might believe?

so what I tried to demonstrate with that chart is Strikeouts (represented as K) vs "Total Bases" (TB); Runs Scored and RBI...
If a guy strikes out a lot, is he at least contributing to the offense enough to justify his whiffs?
In the case of Alonso, yes he has struck out 42 times, but he's also contributed 82 Total Bases, 33 RBI and 28 Runs scored...so it's justified.
In the case of Guillorme, he might have only struck out 16 times, but he's only got 16 Total Bases, 3 RBI and 8 Runs scored...so is he really contributing on offense?
In the case of Nido, he has 16 strikeouts, while only having 6 Total Bases, 1 RBI and 5 runs scored...is that even a back up catcher?

Marte's Total Bases are lower than you would want, but his career numbers say that he's likely to rebound from whatever is going wrong (I'm thinking that he got a concussion or screwed up his neck early in the season with that head first slide into 3rd base on a steal and hasn't been quite right since then...
