I haven't followed Senga's FA much but a fastball at 101 and a devastating splitter apparently. Uncle Steve has certainly shaken up MLB since he bought the team. Now we are the league heavyweights that an NY team should be.

kind of funny that almost all of the focus has been on the pitching side....

The rotation is looking a lot better than it did last week.

The rotation is looking a lot better than it did last week. Agreed. Starting FA, the mets were left with Scherzer, Carrasco, Megill and Peterson, with Drew Smith closing. So no shock they put most of the money into pitching. I really like the Senga deal. 15 million a year is chump change for starting pitching now-a-days. Its 20% less than Walker is making, and Walker was fine... this guy has the upside to be a #2. I think this was a homerun. Nice job Eppler/Stevie.

Bassitt just got 3 years 63 million, or 21 AAV. Shame he was such a late bloomer, that could have been MUCH longer with his performance year after year. Not going to shed tears for him ONLY getting 63 million, but good deal for the Blue Jays who should get some solid up front performance without any long term exposure.
That said, makes me doubly excited for Senga at 5 years (3 year opt out) for only 75 million (15 AAV). Senga (will be 30) is 4 years younger, and has similar floor to Bassit at age 34.

and a compensation pick...So do we get 2 picks? One for deGrom and one for Bassitt? And what about Walker, did he turn down the Qualifying offer, or did something else happen there?

Do we get one for Bassitt? He was traded the year before so I'm not sure if we get one there? If so, all the better.
I like that Bassitt contract at that length and not an overpay. Three years at his age doesn't give the Jays too much exposure. He was our most consistent pitcher this season.

we do for Bassitt because it was not a mid-year trade. DeGrom we do as well. We didn't make a QO to Walker. The picks received are lowish though. The issue with going over the luxury tax is the received picks are watered down, and the penalties for signing someone who has a QO are harsher. This is why I doubly appreciate the Nimmo resigning even if it was a little over value. It meant we didn't need to lose a 2nd and 5th and 1 million international money to get a qualified CF. Pulling up my trusty pocket (internet) MLB rulebook...

Who knows how good Senga will be, but that's certainly not a huge risk in this era of baseball spending. Sure they could've spent the money on Rodon but I like the excitement of unknown upside. This rotation sure is looking good now.

My original argument of I'd rather have Rodon and Senga and the 15 million to spend elsewhere is now moot, because he clearly didn't hold back anywhere else after getting Verlander, lol

Just dawned on me, not much discussion surrounding Senga. Took a peek, and he's not ready, but did throw 25 pitch BP session yesterday with no issues, so they are hoping NLDS. <Fingers Crossed!>

Anything he could give us from the pen would be a godsend.

I wonder if they would consider using him as an opener for an inning or two later in the playoffs if we advance?
