OK, I'm back and trying to hit the ground running.
We've shored up the rotation, kept our bat in the OF, and are still in the hunt for several other potential additions.
We have a DH thread already, so let's look at the next area of concern. The pen.
Several options have been brought in/back, and several options previously on the roster are gone.
So, right now we stand with this as our group:
David Robertson Drew Smith Brooks Riley Edwin Diaz
Plus, whichever of Peterson and Megill who are not the #5.
I'd like to see one or two others as the rest on the roster are unproven or minor leaguers.
The available options I would like to see are:
Lefties: Zack Britton Brad Hand Will Smith Justin Wilson
Righties: Brad Brach Steve Cishek Michael Fulmer Mychal Givens Seth Lugo Trevor May Darrin O'Day Adam Ottavino Trevor Rosenthal
I'd like one from each section. Preferably Hand and Ottavino. (back to my L/R preferences noted in the DH thread)
Lugo will get a shot at starting from someone, and if that is his desire, let him go. He's a decent starter at best, but a VERY good reliever.
So, what does the group feel?

Well the Mets suddenly have a few pitchers with starter experience that likely won't be starting much in 2023
Tylor Megill Peterson Joey Lucchesi

Well Uncle Stevie made this post old real quick As Sax points out, now neither Peterson nor Megill will be the #5. I'd actually like to see them trade Carrasco, would be happy with either major league talent or minor league depth. Coming off decent year, he should fetch something decent as he's due a reasonable 14 million for the year. Is Lucchesi ready to go after his surgery? The Mets have more injury concern in their rotation that most with Verlander, Scherzer and Cookie. It would not surprise me one bit if all 3 of those guys started in AAA as depth pieces. I expect the Mets will fill out the BP with some minor league guys and a couple cheaper FAs. I don't see them spending 8-12 million per year on many more guys. That said, Uncle Stevie has already blown WAAAY beyond what I predicted as a budget landing spot, so what the heck do I know. Names I think will be in the BP: 1 Mystery Man: I'd like Hand as a lefty, but might go for more of a mid range guy with experience. Stephen Nogosek - I believe he's earned a spot. Elieser Hernandez - do you think he's a long man? Or more minor league SP depth for Sax's list? Joey Lucchesi - BP seems like a good place to put him for this year while he recovers. Benefits? 1) he's a lefty. 2) I'd rather keep both Megill and Peters on stretched out. I think that would just about do it.

I would like to see Fulmer signed and for a lefty, Taylor Rogers. Excellent whiff rates though he did struggle after getting traded to the Brewers. Only 31.
And Ottavino was effective for us.

Official BP thread - this felt like a good place to bring this back. Lots of action in the Mets pitcher land.
1) Not BP, but Senga activated, but due to 6 man rotation, BP instead of 8 deep will only be 7.
2) Biggest news, Nunez to IL, timeline at least August, maybe longer.
3) Eric Orze called back up - who?
4) Hauser DFA'd. Going to miss his mop-up duty, but not sorry to see him go.
5) Fujinami DFA'd- we hardly knew ya.
Still somehow on the roster - Diaz, Butto, Ottavino, Diekman, D Young, A Young, Orze.
We need a LOT of help here. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Mr. Stearns....

The Nunez injury hurts (pardon the pun), he's been money.
Projected timeline is 4-8 weeks, as long as it's NOT more than what's listed.
With the Maton and Stanek trades, it looks like Stearns is trying to get the pen some legit major league arms without gutting the farm. I agree with that assessment, hopefully he makes the right moves as the team as currently assembled is in dire need of actual major league pitching.
